Share serenity; it’s contagious

There is so much turmoil and chaos going on in the world today.

So much my heart hurts.

And — like everyone else — I feel powerless.

But the one thing we can control is our response to the stimulus entering our perception.

We can choose to not respond with fear or anger. We can choose to turn our eyes towards peace, towards love.

It may seem like a pointless endeavour.

It may seem like since the world is burning, why bother putting forth the effort?

But as Patanjali said in The Yoga Sutras:

“We can be serene even in the midst of calamities and, by our serenity, make others more tranquil. Serenity is contagious.”

Even if you’re struggling to find serenity, turn your eyes towards peace and love. And when it fails, try once more…because you’re not alone.

We’re all feeling overwhelmed, afraid, anxious, powerless…

But if you can muster some serenity, you could very well help those around you find serenity, too.

And that — my friend — is never a pointless endeavour.
